Expert Removal of Surfer’s Eye: Clearer Vision, Better Comfort

At Dr. P. S. Hardia Advanced Eye Surgery and Research Institute, we provide specialized care for Pterygium, a non-cancerous, wing-shaped growth of the conjunctiva that spreads onto the cornea. Often caused by prolonged exposure to UV light, dust, and wind, a Pterygium can lead to persistent irritation, redness, and in advanced cases, blurred vision by altering the shape of the eye.

Our diagnostic approach focuses on evaluating the extent of the growth and its impact on your corneal health. While mild cases can be managed with lubricated eye drops and lifestyle changes, persistent or growing Pterygiums require surgical intervention. We use advanced mapping to ensure the removal process is precise, protecting the underlying healthy tissue of your eye.

Leveraging our Guinness World Record legacy, we employ the Conjunctival Autograft (CAG) technique the gold standard in Pterygium surgery. This method significantly reduces the chances of recurrence (regrowth) compared to traditional methods. Our goal is to provide a smooth, aesthetic, and functional recovery, ensuring your eyes feel and look healthy again.

Key Benefits of Pterygium Excision Surgery

    • Elimination of Persistent Irritation: Surgery effectively removes the constant "foreign body" sensation, itching, and burning caused by the growth.
    • Prevention of Vision Distortion: Timely removal prevents the Pterygium from stretching the cornea, which can cause astigmatism and blurred vision.
    • Restored Aesthetic Appearance: The procedure clears the prominent red, fleshy growth, returning your eye to its natural, clear, and healthy look.
    • Suture-less Comfort: By using biological glues instead of stitches, we reduce post-operative scratching sensations and speed up the healing process.
    • Permanent Results: Using the Autograft method (moving healthy tissue to the site) ensures the highest success rate with the lowest possible recurrence.

    Enhanced by Advanced Conjunctival Autografting

By utilizing modern tissue adhesive technology and high-precision microsurgery, we ensure a painless removal process that promotes rapid healing and restores a smooth, clear corneal surface for every patient. (25 words)

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Frequently Asked Questions

What causes a Pterygium to grow?
The primary causes are long-term exposure to UV (ultraviolet) rays from sunlight, as well as chronic eye irritation from dry, dusty, or windy environments. It is very common in sunny climates like India.
Is a Pterygium dangerous or cancerous?
No, a Pterygium is a benign (non-cancerous) growth. However, it is "invasive" in the sense that it can grow across the cornea and permanently affect your vision or cause chronic discomfort if ignored.
    How is the surgery performed?
The surgery involves carefully removing the fleshy growth and replacing it with a small graft of healthy tissue from under your eyelid (Autograft). This is a day-care procedure performed under local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes.
Does a Pterygium grow back after surgery?
With older surgical methods, recurrence was common. However, with our advanced Conjunctival Autograft technique and the use of fibrin glue, the recurrence rate is extremely low (less than 5%).
When can I return to normal activities?
Most patients can return to work within 2 to 3 days. You will need to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from dust and UV rays during the initial healing phase of about two weeks.
Can Pterygium be treated with eye drops alone?
Eye drops can help reduce the redness and irritation, but they cannot make the growth disappear. Surgery is the only way to physically remove a Pterygium once it has formed.
