    What is Toric ICL Surgery?

Toric ICL is an implantable collamer lens procedure designed to correct myopia with astigmatism. The customised lens is placed inside the eye, behind the iris and in front of the natural lens, where it helps focus incoming light accurately on the retina. Unlike corneal laser procedures, Toric ICL does not remove corneal tissue.

The procedure is performed through a small incision under local anaesthetic. After careful positioning and alignment of the toric lens, the eye is checked to ensure appropriate placement and visual correction.

    Why Choose Toric ICL Surgery?

    Cornea-Preserving

Toric ICL corrects vision without removing corneal tissue, making it a lens-based alternative to laser vision correction.

    Toric Correction

The toric lens design is intended to correct myopia with regular astigmatism for clearer distance vision.

    No Corneal Flap

The procedure does not involve creating a corneal flap, unlike LASIK-based procedures.

    Removable Lens

The implanted lens can be removed or exchanged by an eye surgeon when clinically required.

    Visual Recovery

Many patients experience useful vision soon after surgery, with visual clarity continuing to stabilise during recovery.

    Personalised Fit

Lens power and size are selected using detailed eye measurements to match the individual eye.

Who Can Benefit from Toric ICL Surgery

Toric ICL surgery may be suitable for selected patients with myopia and astigmatism after a comprehensive eye examination.

    Near-Sightedness
    (Myopia)

SMILE effectively corrects myopia, helping you see distant objects more clearly while reducing dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

    Myopia with
    Astigmatism

SMILE can also correct suitable cases of myopia with astigmatism, providing sharper and more comfortable vision.

    SMILE Eligibility Assessment

A comprehensive eye examination helps determine whether your eyes are suitable for SMILE laser vision correction.

Every patient undergoes a comprehensive eye examination

to determine whether SMILE is the most appropriate treatment option.

    What Happens During the Procedure?

    1

    Anaesthetic Eye Drops

    Numbs the eye for comfort

    2

    Small Incision

A small opening is made to allow the lens to enter the eye.

    3

    ICL Insertion

The customised Toric ICL is carefully inserted into the eye.

    4

    Lens Alignment

The toric lens is accurately positioned and aligned according to the required axis.

    5

    Clearer Vision

The lens works with the natural eye to improve focus and reduce dependence on glasses.

    Recovery After Toric ICL Surgery

Is Toric ICL Right for You?

Toric ICL may be suitable for adults with stable myopia and astigmatism who want to reduce their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. Suitability depends on factors including refractive power, astigmatism, anterior chamber depth, eye health and individual anatomy.

A comprehensive eye examination is essential to determine whether Toric ICL is the right vision correction procedure for you.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Is Toric ICL surgery painful?
Toric ICL surgery is generally performed under local anaesthesia, so significant pain is not expected during the procedure. Some patients may experience mild discomfort, watering or temporary irritation after surgery.
    2. Can Toric ICL correct both myopia and astigmatism?
Yes. Toric ICL is specifically designed for suitable cases of myopia with astigmatism. The lens contains a toric correction that is positioned according to the required axis.
    3. Is Toric ICL different from regular ICL?
Yes. A regular ICL is designed primarily to correct myopia, while a Toric ICL includes cylindrical correction for suitable patients who also have astigmatism.
    4. How quickly can vision improve after Toric ICL surgery?
Many patients experience noticeable visual improvement soon after surgery. However, the speed of recovery varies, and vision may continue to stabilise during the early postoperative period.
    5. Can Toric ICL be removed later?
Toric ICL is removable by an eye surgeon when clinically required. Any decision to remove, exchange or reposition the lens depends on the patient's eye condition and ophthalmologist's assessment.
    6. Will I still need glasses after Toric ICL surgery?
Toric ICL can significantly reduce dependence on glasses for distance vision in suitable patients, but individual results vary. Reading glasses may still be needed later because of natural age-related changes in near vision.
